¿Tenéis algo que hacer el 25 de mayo? ¿Os apetece asistir a un festival único en el mundo? No os perdáis la Maldon Mud Race, un evento que atrae a miles de visitantes de toda a Europa.

Maldon es un municipio de aproximadamente 16.000 habitantes que se encuentra en el condado de Essex, al este de Inglaterra. Allí se celebra una carrera que consiste en completar un recorrido de 400 metros (de orilla a orilla y vuelta) sobre el lecho fangoso del río Blackwater aprovechando la marea baja.  Aunque originariamente esta competición se hacía a finales de diciembre, las condiciones meteorológicas de 2010 hicieron que se pospusiera a primavera y el consiguiente éxito de público hizo que el cambio fuera permanente.

Los asistentes el pasado año fueron un total de 15.000 personas y en 2014 esperan aumentar esta cifra. Además el festival tiene fines benéficos y en 2013 recaudaron 55.000€ para organizaciones locales como el J’s Hospice.

Maldon is a 16.000 inhabitant town located in Essex county, East of England. Here a very peculiar race takes place: taking advantage of the low tide, participants must run back and forth the muddy bed of river Blackwater, covering 400 metres in total. Even though traditionally this competition used to be held by the end of December, in 2010 the festival was postponed due to adverse weather conditions. The success was so remarkable that the Maldon Mud Race has been celebrated in springtime ever since.

Last year a total of 15.000 people attended this event, a figure that is expected to increase in 2014. This festival has also a charitable purpose: in 2013 a total of 55.000 € were raised to support local non-profit organisations like J's Hospice.
